While this might surprise people, Jhene Aiko has made it no secret that the late rapper, Tupac Shakur, continues to be one of her biggest influences. Here’s a list of not-so-known facts about one of the biggest R&B singers. While she tries to keep much of her private life out of the spotlight, there are some things about Jhene that have surfaced during her rise to fame.

Her association with the group landed the singer her first record deal, but Jhene ended up walking away when music execs attempted to change her image and sound. Los Angeles R&B singer songwriter Jhené Aiko began her career contributing backing vocals to recordings by the R&B boy band B2K. The album features the singles 3:16AM, Bed Peace featuring Childish Gambino and The Worst. Having already made a big impression in 2013 with appearances on singles from Big Sean ('Beware') and Drake ('From Time'), breathy R&B vocalist Jhené Aiko fleshes out her character on Sail Out, a relaxed debut EP that suggests that this girl is on permanent vacation. Jhen wrote most of the album by herself, and contains production from No I.D. It was released on June 19, 2013, through Def Jam Recordings and was Jhen's first release under the label. That's when she was hired to co-write songs for the former R&B group, B2K. Sail Out is the debut extended play by Jhen Aiko. She dropped her debut album, Souled Out, in 2014, but Jhene Aiko has actually been part of the music industry since the early 00s.
